Alison Hammond broke down in tears while speaking about her former This Morning colleague Phillip Schofield.

Hammond began crying after watching a short segment from Mr Schofield's interview and said she was finding it "really painful".

She added: "I loved Phillip Schofield. It's weird because I still love Phillip Schofield. However, what he's done is wrong, he's admitted it, he's said sorry.

"As a family, we're all really struggling to process everything. My mum always said use your bible as your sat nav.

"He without sin cast the first stone. I don't want to say anything bad because I am in conflict."

Dermot O'Leary echoed Hammond's sentiments and said: "It's very difficult for us to cover this story - he's a friend and a colleague."

People on social media also stepped forward to share their support.

"Well done @AlisonHammond finally a humane and honest reaction to this whole sorry saga xxx," one user wrote.

After resigning from ITV last week, the 61-year-old, was dropped by his talent agency YMU after admitting to an "unwise but not illegal" affair with the man.

Mr Schofield shared his thoughts in an interview with BBC said: "I have to talk about television in the past tense, which breaks my heart... I have lost everything.

"What am I going to do with my days?" he said. "I see nothing ahead of me but blackness, and sadness, and regret, and remorse, and guilt. I did something very wrong, and then I lied about it consistently."

In an interview with The Sun, Mr Schofield said he felt "utterly broken and ashamed" but insisted he "did not" groom the man and told the paper he would "die sorry".

What else did Mr Schofield reveal?

Mr Schofield also opened up about suicidal thoughts since the scandal and linked his situation to that of Caroline Flack.

He also shared that his first romantic encounter was when the man was 20-years-old.

Mr Schofield also said that co-star Holly Willoughby did not know about the affair and that he does not believe there is a toxic work environment on the set of This Morning.
