Graham Norton led the Irish wins at the National Television Awards this year.

The popular TV presenter from Co Cork picked up a new award for Best TV Interview at the starstudded show in London on Tuesday night, beating Piers Morgan, Louis Theroux, and Chris and Rosie Ramsey.

The award was for an interview on the Graham Norton Show featuring Bono and Taylor Swift, where the Irish rocker discussed losing out on an Oscar to Disney flick Frozen.

In the winning clip, Norton tells Bono to 'Let it Go', referring to the hit song, winning huge applause from the audience.

Norton appeared on a video link to collect his award, as he is currently in America, and said: "I'm so sorry I can't be there. Finally, I win a National Television Award and I'm not there."

He added: "This award, winning it means so much,” before going on to joke, “Mostly, it means that Ant and Dec don't have a talk show... yet. Don't do it to me, boys."

Ant and Dec were the big winners of the night as per tradition, picking up their 22nd consecutive win in the presenter category.

Strictly Come Dancing picked up the award for Best Talent Show, while Happy Valley and EastEnders were the other big winners at the awards, which are voted for by the viewing public.

Happy Valley star Sarah Lancashire won Best Drama Performance and the Special Recognition Award. The popular BBC series was also named Best Returning Drama.

Receiving her award, Lancashire said: "Thank you so much for this. I have adored every scene, every moment of Happy Valley, and I know I will never forget it."

The BBC's EastEnders was named Best Continuing Drama, with stars Danielle Harold and Bobby Brazier winning Best Serial Drama Performance and the Rising Star Award, respectively.

Elsewhere, all eyes were on ITV's This Morning, as the show lost its Best Daytime Show title to BBC's The Repair Shop this year.

It comes as the morning programme continues to face backlash amid the departure of Phillip Schofield and the drama that surrounded it.

The late Paul O'Grady, who died earlier in the year, was posthumously honoured in the Best Factual Entertainment category for his show For the Love of Dogs.

Meanwhile on the red carpet, the fashion stakes were high as usual as the talent stepped out in style to celebrate the night at the O2 in London.

Among those in attendance was Longford native Maura Higgins, who turned heads in a racy pearl dress. The 32-year-old appeared on the red carpet just days after announcing her career change after bagging ger first acting gig.

Irish actress Sinead Keenan, known for playing Farrah Phelan in Fair City, was also present, alongside familiar faces from across the pond including Holly Willoughby, Olivia Attwood and Katie Piper.
