In 2022 Carlow man Eamonn Treacy was awarded the Conventional Champion title at the World Ploughing Championships.

Eamonn will compete in the National Ploughing Championships 2023 in Ratheniska, Co Laois from September 19th to September 21st.

Speaking to Carlow Live, Eamonn admitted he hasn't has as much preparation as he would have liked due to the bad weather conditions we've experienced for most of this summer.

The Garyhill farmer said he will be concentrating on ploughing for the next ten days.

Stress levels can be high at home running up to an event like this.

'I have two sons ploughing as well.'

However Eamonn is confident, 'We've all been here before and done it. Its not new to us, so we'll get there.'

There will be no rest for Eamonn, as well as fellow champion and Wexford man John Whelan, as they have a quick turnover before heading over to Latvia for the World Championships.

'It couldn't be any quicker. We're ploughing [in Laois] on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Then Friday afternoon our tractors and all the gear have to be loaded and ready to leave for Latvia by 2pm.'

'Friday morning is going to be very busy.'

'It makes it difficult as you have no time after the National.'

'Once we get out to Latvia we have some practice ground organised. We'll be out there for ten days in advance just preparing, getting use to the ground and soil conditions.'

The World Ploughing Championships will take place in Latvia on the 13th and 14th October 2023.
