Chelsea have agreed terms with Mauricio Pochettino to become their new head coach.

Details of the deal are expected to be finalised in the coming days. Pochettino will start his new role in the summer, with Jesus Perez, Miguel D’Agostino, Toni Jimenez and son Sebastiano Pochettino to join him at Stamford Bridge as his backroom team. Club coaches will also join his staff.

Pochettino will collaborate with Chelsea’s sporting directors and Frank Lampard, who is the interim head coach, before the end of the season.

The Argentine has been out of football since departing his role with Paris Saint-Germain in July of last year.

Chelsea have been looking for a new permanent head coach since sacking Graham Potter last month, with former boss Lampard placed in temporary charge for the remainder of the season.

Pochettino rose to prominence at Espanyol and Southampton before a hugely successful spell with Chelsea’s London rivals Tottenham.

He helped Spurs qualify for the top four in four-straight seasons as well as leading them to a first Champions League final in 2019.

He was sacked the following season before taking up the role as head coach with PSG in January 2021.

He won the Coupe de France in May 2021 before claiming the Ligue 1 title the following season.

Chelsea have endured a hugely difficult season with both Potter and Thomas Tuchel paying the price with their jobs.

Lampard was placed in caretaker charge in April and, after a run of six straight defeats, secured his first victory with a 3-1 win over Bournemouth in May.

They drew with Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
