Post office workers bring Christmas Cheer for Suncoast kids
SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - ‘Tis the season to be jolly, and some of Santa’s elves from the post office made their annual trip to Tuttle Elementary with gifts in hand. Kindergartners wrote Santa a letter with what they want for Christmas, and good Ol’ St. Nick delivered.
They couldn’t believe their eyes when they walked outside to see what was waiting for them.
Elisa Hernandez, kindergartener says, “I got a Barbie and it’s cute. I love the t-shirt and the pants, and I love the accessories.”
This whole thing started with 12 kids in one class, but now four years later it’s an entire kindergarten class of 112 kids. It’s all because of two people.Mikkicia Woods and Helena Baker know Santa personally, and they are just fulfilling his wish of spreading Christmas cheer.
Woods says, “Here is the thing about the Christmas spirit, it doesn’t cost a lot. It doesn’t cost a lot to spread joy. It costs you nothing to put a smile on a kids face. Or even an adults face the teachers also enjoy it.”
Every year the elf army that Helena Baker started continues to grow. So next year expect even bigger.
Baker says, “Every year we want it to get bigger. We want it to catch on and get bigger so every kid can have a Christmas present.”
Seeing all these kids’ reactions is what it’s all about.
Nadine Stox, Kindergarten teacher, says “I’m absolutely speechless. To think about the generosity and this community and how it started. It really is giving me Goosebumps.”
Merry Christmas and happy holidays everyone.
