Arsenal made light work of Chelsea once more as they cruised to an emphatic 5-0 win on Tuesday night to build a lead at the top of the Premier League table of three points, even if it is just temporary. Goals from Leandro Trossard and doubles for Ben White and Kai Havertz completed a thorough rout.
Not only did the victory ensure that Mikel Arteta's side piled the pressure on Liverpool and Manchester City ahead of their matches against Everton and Brighton, it boosted the goal difference massively too. It comes as the second win in a row following a big response to consecutive defeats last week.
Led by a fierce attacking trident of Havertz, Trossard, and Bukayo Saka, Martin Odegaard consistently opened up Chelsea with increasingly inventive threaded passes. Declan Rice anchored the team from deep and drove forward in possession, slicing through the blue shirts in front of him, and Arsenal were relentless in their dominance.
The game could have been even more one-sided on the scoreline by the end too with Djordje Petrovic making several brilliant saves for Chelsea but without reward. Rice himself hit the post and by the end it was time for olays from the home fans.
The feeling in north London has changed dramatically in a little over ten days. Here, football.london compares the run-ins for Arsenal and their title rivals.
