The Premier League title race took another twist on Wednesday night as Liverpool suffered their first Merseyside derby defeat in three years at Goodison Park.

Jarrad Branthwaite and Dominic Calvert-Lewin scored the goals for Everton to bolster their hopes of staying in the Premier League. The defeat is Liverpool's second in their last three league games, leaving their hopes of winning the Premier League title in jeopardy.

Jurgen Klopp's men are now three points behind Arsenal at the top of the Premier League table. They will drop down to third if Manchester City win at Brighton & Hove Albion on Thursday night.

Liverpool's defeat is good news for Mikel Arteta's side. After comfortably dispatching London rivals Chelsea on Tuesday, the Gunners have recovered from their brief blip earlier this month to return to the top of the table.

No matter what happens at Brighton, Arsenal will go into Sunday's north London derby as league leaders. It is set up to be a tense final month of the season for the right to be crowned champions of England. Here, football.london compares the difficult fixtures between the three title chasers.

Arsenal's most difficult fixtures

Tottenham (A) - Sunday, April 28

The trip to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is set to be another big test for Arsenal. After being held to a 2-2 draw by their north London rivals earlier in the season, the Gunners will take another huge step to winning the Premier League title with three points.

Ange Postecoglou's side are still fighting for a place in the UEFA Champions League, though a fifth-placed finish is more likely. However, victory for the white side of London will be more than just three points that derails Arsenal's title hopes.

Manchester United (A) - Sunday, May 12

The games away from the Emirates Stadium don't get any easier with a trip to Manchester United set to take place on the penultimate weekend of the season. The Red Devils may not be at their very best under Erik ten Hag but it's always a difficult fixture.

Arsenal have lost their last two visits to Old Trafford but Arteta's side will fancy their chances at ticking off another fixture.

Everton (H) - Sunday, May 19

On the final day of the season, Arsenal will welcome Everton to the Emirates in a fixture that could have much resting on it at both ends of the table. At this rate, the title race is going the distance and the Toffees aren't mathematically safe yet.

However, after beating Liverpool, Sean Dyche's men are eight points above the bottom three.

AFC Bournemouth (H) - Saturday, May 4

Following the trip to Tottenham, Arsenal kick-off May with a home game against Bournemouth. The Cherries are safe from relegation and have enjoyed another decent season in the top-flight.

They will visit north London with nothing to play for so the Gunners will hope they can earn three points.
