Conor McGregor hastily scrubbed a distasteful joke from social media implying Jake Paul might pursue paralyzed boxer Prichard Colon for his next fight.

The comment, which attracted significant attention and criticism, has been deleted by the UFC fighter - in the wake of McGregor losing a massive bet on the fight.

This comes after Paul's most recent win, taking his record to 11-1 following a points decision victory over boxing legend Mike Tyson. Paul, who rose to prominence on YouTube before switching to boxing, has come under fire for allegedly picking opponents who are beyond their best days, including Tyson.

During the match, displeased fans at the Dallas event began leaving early. McGregor's offensive quip concerning Colon surfaced online: "They are eyeing Prichard Colon for next opponent."

This alluded to Colon being left paralyzed after a tragic brain injury sustained in a 2015 bout with Terrel Williams. Following a 221-day coma, Colon has been under the care of his mother in Orlando, Florida.

Although Paul won his eighth round on points against an adversary 30 years older, he didn't deliver on the anticipated knockout, leading him to address detractors directly through his own social channels.

He commented: "I tried to give the best fight I possibly could, but when someone's just surviving in the ring, basically it's hard to make it exciting. So I couldn't really get him to engage me or slip shots and do something super cool or whatever, but I don't care about what people have to say. They're always going to have something to say and that it is what it is. I don't miss. People just love to hate me. I'm easy to hate and I intentionally say things to make people hate me."
