Fast Facts: Rangers Against Motherwell

Rangers

RANGERS take on the Steelmen at Ibrox today and you can read a range of Fast Facts about the clubs and matches between them right here.

Including the play-off match in May 2015 to determine who would play in the Premiership the following season, Rangers and Motherwell have met previously at Ibrox on 138 occasions on league business, with the Light Blues having recorded 109 victories to the Steelmen’s ten while 19 fixtures have ended even. Over the course of these matches, Rangers have scored 316 goals and conceded 108.

Both of this season’s previous meetings between Rangers and Motherwell have been settled by goals quite early on in each contest. Cyriel Dessers got the only goal after 24 minutes when the sides last met at Ibrox in September while the only two goals scored at Fir Park in December both came inside the first 16 minutes with Kieran Dowell and Todd Cantwell the men on target.

Of the current playing staff, James Tavernier is the top scorer against Motherwell with seven goals to his credit, but only one of these has been scored at Ibrox. The goal, which at the time was his second strike against the Steelmen, came in a 7-1 victory in November 2018 with Scott Arfield and Eros Grezda both helping themselves to doubles on the day.

The clean sheet kept by Jack Butland in the last meeting between the clubs at Fir Park in December, was the 100th shutout by a Rangers goalkeeper in a league match against Motherwell. The first goalkeeper to keep the Steelmen out was John Watson in a 3-0 Rangers victory at Ibrox in December 1903, the second league fixture between the clubs, while the 50th shutout was kept by Nicky Walker in a 2-0 win at Fir Park in September 1986. Chris Woods and Allan McGregor share the most clean sheets in league matches against Motherwell, with 11 each, followed by Stefan Klos (10), Peter McCloy (8) and Andy Goram (7). In total, 25 different keepers have contributed at least one shutout for Rangers in the fixture.
