Thirteen Longford competitors take part in National Ploughing ...
This week, thirteen Longford competitors head for Ratheniska, Co Laois, to take part in the National Ploughing Championships.
For Longford, which isn’t traditionally a tillage county, this is testament to the hard work the committee and members put in to have a large county ploughing match every year.
The competitors are as follows;
Tuesday
Sean Monaghan - Intermediate Conventional
Daniel Haughey - Under 21
Bernie Jordan - 3 Furrow Conventional
Charlie Stewart - Vintage 2 Furrow Trailer
Wednesday
Cynthia Cruise - Farmerette
Anthony Reynolds - Senior Conventional
Niall Tully - Novice
Billy Stewart - Vintage 2 Furrow Mounted
Brian Casey - Loy Senior
Deirdre Casey - Loy Junior Ladies
Thursday
Andrew Stewart - Junior Conventional
Peter Boyle - Macra
Eamon Kiernan - Vintage Single Furrow Mounted
With Loy Digging a long standing tradition in Longford, we wish Brian & Deidre Casey the very best of luck.
Ballymahon man, Bernie Jordan, who recently celebrated his 88th birthday, will be proudly representing Longford ploughing in the fields of Laois on Tuesday in the 3 Furrow Conventional.
The committee and members of Longford Ploughing wish every competitor the very best of luck.
The annual general of the Longford Ploughing Association will take place in early December and the committee are actively looking for a site before this time.
Approximately 25 acres are needed for ploughing, exhibition area and parking. If any land is available for this, even between two farmers, please get in contact with Longford Ploughing Association chairperson Barry White on 087 949 0024.
