I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! star Reverend Richard Coles, 62, has won over viewers and campmates alike on the show - but he previously revealed he was worried a health issue would get in the way.

Richard entered the camp along with Love Island ’s Maura Higgins, and immediately hit it off with the other celebs. When speaking to the Mirror before entering the jungle, however, he shared his concerns about something that could ruin camp life.

The Have I Got News For You contributor divulged he was worried about his snoring, and feared “everybody wanting to kill me because I keep them awake at night.” He said his snoring problem is so bad that his partner, actor Richard Cant, was looking forward to getting some peace and quiet with Richard in Australia.

"I'd be worried about the snoring actually, because my partner is not a fan of that at all,” Richard shared. “He made me have this thing. It's like a boxer's gum shield put in to stop snoring. But after a while, you just feel it's just getting a little bit Frankenstein." During the same interview, Richard also opened up about the extreme measures he’d gone to to prepare for the gruelling competition, sharing that he’d been consuming 5000 calories a day on a cruise before taking on the very lean jungle diet.

“I would like to say that I've been lowering my calorie intake to prepare for that, but that's not worked out so far. I've been trying not to look at nature programs about the horrors of Australia,” he joked, adding, “I am also worried about finding a fear I didn't know I had yet and going to pieces on television in front of a koala or wombat or something.”

Considering his healthy appetite, Richard admitted that he wasn’t as scared by the idea of eating trials unlike many other campmates. “I like eating weird things anyway, so I have a rule of, whenever I go anywhere, is to eat the local delicacy, which is sometimes not great,” he said.

However, the lack of food in the jungle was seen as more of an issue, with Richard claiming: “I'm never more than 12 feet away from a sandwich, so that's going to be quite tricky." Despite his worries about food, animals, and ruining friendships over his snoring, Richard described how his experiences in the church may have set him up with some handy skills for surviving camp life.

“Also I lived in the monastery for two years,” he said. “So I know what it's like to be locked in with people you didn't choose to be with. So I've got some resilience. Except there wasn't food deprivation, instead there was a lot of cake in the monastery. So I don't know what it will be like.”
