Designer goods worth around €50,000 have been seized by Revenue officers during operations in Dublin targeting smuggling and the 'shadow economy'.

In a statement confirming details of the seizure, a spokesperson said a significant quantity of retail goods were seized last week "due to infringements of Intellectual Property Rights".

The goods and products comprised a Rolex watch, three Apple Airpods, 105 pairs of Adidas sports shoes, 60 football jerseys, 60 pairs of Nike jogging suits, 20 Nike tracksuits, five Tommy Hilfiger jackets, 10 Hugo Boss polo shirts, 1,380 pairs of Nike sports socks and designer underwear from brands including Hugo Boss, Calvin Klein and Tommy Hilfiger. 

During the same operation, Revenue officers examining parcels at a premises in Dublin seized 13.9 kgs of herbal cannabis with an estimated value of €277,000. Various quantities of other illicit drugs, with an estimated value of over €3,700, were also seized.

"The illicit drugs were discovered, as a result of risk profiling, in parcels originating from the UK, the USA, Canada, Thailand and India, and were intended for addresses nationwide," said a spokesperson.

The other illicit drugs comprised included 19.6g of cannabis resin, 301g of THC Edibles, 33mls of cannabis oil, 39.8g of Butane Honey Oil, 300 Ephedrine tablets, 30 Tapentadol tablets and 1,246 of Alprazolam/Diazepam/Zopiclone/Zolpidem tablets.

Investigations into all seizures are ongoing.
