Mark English believes Rhasidat Adeleke can take Irish athletics into a brave new world.

The 21-year-old Tallaght sprinter is Ireland's leading medal hope for the Olympic Games.

Adeleke was the silver medallist over 400m at the European Championships in Rome earlier this summer.

Adeleke also spearheaded a gold for the mixed 4x400m relay team and silver for the women's 4x400m in Rome.

“We all feel that she is the most talented athlete that we have ever had,” English, the Finn Valley AC athlete who will compete in the 800m in Paris, said. “What she can do is something that no-one else has ever done.

“It is a real privilage to be a part of a team with her and it's really exciting.”

Adeleke won gold at a recent Diamond League meet in Monaco, finishing in 49.17 seconds at the Stade Louis II.

If she runs in the women's 4x400m relay in Paris, Adeleke could be joined by Tir Chonaill AC's Kelly McGrory, who is also on the squad.
