Manchester City's midfield linchpin Rodri is likely to miss the remainder of the Premier League campaign after tests Monday morning suggested he suffered a right knee ACL tear in Sunday's draw with Arsenal, ESPN are reporting.

Further tests are expected to confirm the extent of the damage but form indications are that it is a cruciate tear. He is likely to undergo surgery in Barcelona.

Rodri crumpled in a heap midway through the first half of Sunday's fractious clash between the League's top top favourites and was seen to be writhing in pain before limping off the pitch.

City scored a last-minute equaliser through John Stones to secure a 2-2 draw against Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday. The result keeps them at the top of the table with 13 points from the first five games.

Rodri was voted Euro 2024 player of the tournament and is considered among the favourites to win the Ballon D'Or. Needless to say, if his season-long absence s confirmed, it will come as a huge blow to City, who are chasing their fifth successive Premier League title.

Last week, Rodri suggested that players are "close" to going on strike over concerns about their increasing workload.
