Rory McIlroy is set to feature on the first episode of the new season of The Late Late Show, as Patrick Kielty returns to the hot seat.

The Holywood golfer will appear on Friday night’s episode, which marks Co Down comedian Kielty’s second season as presenter of the long running RTE chat show.

McIlroy teed off at the Amgen Irish Open on Thursday afternoon at Royal County Down in Newcastle.

He also made an appearance during Wednesday’s special Pro Am event, which featured James Nesbitt, AP McCoy, Rory Best and Tommy Bowe.

During Friday night’s Late Late Show, McIlroy and Kielty are set to discuss all things golf and the very special project the golfer is supporting across Childhood Cancer Awareness Month at the Royal County Down fairway.

The Late Late Show will also welcome rappers Kabin Crew and Lisdoonvarna Crew, who will chat about their viral hit 'The Spark'.

While Team Ireland’s time in Paris has come to an end following incredible performances by all the athletes, Olympians and Paralympians will come together for the very first time on The Late Late Show as Kielty will welcome medallists home from the summer games.

Speaking ahead of the show, Kielty said: “It is the summer of County Down Olympic love so it was just so, so good. Team Ireland.

"We were actually in France – not in Paris but in France – while a lot of these medals were being won. That was just an amazing, amazing moment.”

Kielty added that the Olympians and Paralympians will be telling the audience about “their journey” and “we’re going to be telling them how proud we are of them”.

Comedian John Bishop and folk singers John Sheahan and Phil Coulter complete Friday night’s line up.
