RTE Late Late Show viewers were left squirming during the latest episode when an awkward guest interview had them reaching for the remote.
The show returned with a bang on Friday night, but the guest line-up divided opinions, with some fans expressing their discomfort on social media over one particularly 'awkward' instance. Patrick Kielty was missing in the opening segment, with Toy Show star Brian Óg taking centre stage with a standout monologue before joining forces with Irish legend Nathan Carter for a song and dance routine that charmed the audience, reports Galway Beo.
Many adored the segment, with one fan tweeting: "Brian Óg for President! " while another wrote: "Love the confidence of that young man on the late later show, generational evolution."
However, not everyone was impressed, as a naysayer posted on X (formerly Twitter): "This is so awkward." Another lamented: "It's all getting (gone) very cringe."
As the evening progressed, a fresh batch of celebrity contestants destined for the next series of Dancing With The Stars, set to premiere in January 2025, occupied the sofa.
Last week also saw The Late Late Toy Show finally broadcast, albeit later than its traditional November slot, wowing audiences with what some called the 'best ever' toy show moment.
This year's Late Late Toy Show theme was Home Alone, and Kielty's two lads, Milo, eight, and James, five, are at the perfect age for the Toy Show. However, they watched their dad host the show from their London home.
Kielty was full of energy as he arrived at RTÉ's television centre on Thursday, giving the media a sneak peek at the 2024 set. But there was one moment that viewers couldn't shake off, with Toy Show fans taking to social media to share their thoughts.
The opening scene of this year's Toy Show recreated the iconic Home Alone scene where Kevin McCallister slides down his stairs on a sledge, and viewers were seriously impressed with the Toy Show's rendition.
One viewer exclaimed: "Best Late Late Toy Show start ever? " while another chimed in: "Ok I already LOVE the Hoke Alone theme, what an opener! " A third viewer declared that the 2024 Toy Show is "already iconic."
While the kids on the toy show have a blast, the adults watching at home also enjoy the spectacle, which is set to run for two and a half hours tonight.
Some even engage in cheeky drinking games with hilarious rules, with one viewer suggesting: "Take a sip of a drink if there is: a kid wearing a GAA jersey, a toy breaks down mid demonstration, a kid's hero comes out Irish dancing, a kid who melts the hearts of the nation."
When Storm Darragh prompted a red warning for tonight at 9pm, bosses of the Late Late Show reached out to those who've nabbed audience tickets and may be coming from affected counties. A spokesperson confirmed: "The safety and wellbeing of all involved in The Toy Show is part of our planning every year. The Toy Show team has been keeping in contact with those living in affected areas."
Despite the severe weather, spirits were high as kids, including Galway girl Síofra Dolan from Ballinasloe, enjoyed the limelight.
Síofra shone bright during her appearance in the Late Late Toy Show County Parade that made history by featuring children from all 32 counties, showcasing immense county pride on screen.
