RTE Late Late Show viewers were squirming in their seats during the latest episode after an awkward interview left some opting to switch channels. The hit show returned with a splash on Friday night, yet not all watchers were thrilled with the line-up, as social media was abuzz over one particular 'awkward' incident.
Patrick Kielty usually beams joy, but on this occasion, he made way for Toy Show sensation Brian Óg, who kicked things off with a monologue of his own. He transitioned into a song and dance act with beloved Irish icon Nathan Carter, charming the audience in no time.
While many adored the segment, declaring the young lad a mood-lifter for the night-time show – one fan gushed: "Brian Óg for President! " Another praised: "Love the confidence of that young man on the late later show, generational evolution."
Still, not everyone was onboard; a viewer grumbled online: "This is so awkward" and another expressed: "It's all getting (gone) very cringe.", reports Galway Beo.
Later, the couch welcomed a fresh batch of famous faces gearing up for the new season of Dancing With The Stars set for January 2025. And let's not forget, last week's Late Late Toy Show wowed many, airing slightly off-schedule but still hailed by some as showcasing the 'best ever' toy show moment.
The theme of this year's Late Late Toy Show was a nod to the classic 'Home Alone', and it seems Kielty's lads, Milo, aged eight, and five year old James, were in the perfect age bracket to enjoy the spectacle. But instead of being in the audience, they watched their dad take the reins of the show from their London pad.
Kielty made quite the entrance at RTÉ's telly centre on Thursday, as the press got an early glimpse of the 2024 set. And there was one bit that really stuck with viewers – the opening sequence.
Taking to social media, fans were buzzing about the Toy Show's homage to the iconic moment in 'Home Alone' where Kevin McCallister sledges down the stairs. One fan gushed: "Best Late Late Toy Show start ever? " Another chimed in with: "Ok I already LOVE the Home Alone theme, what an opener! " A third declared the 2024 Toy Show "already iconic."
While the kiddos on screen are having a blast, the grown-ups at home are equally entertained, settling in for a two-and-a-half-hour treat.
Some even spice up the evening with cheeky drinking games, complete with rules that'll have you chuckling. One viewer suggested: "Take a sip of a drink if there is: a kid wearing a GAA jersey, a toy breaks down mid demonstration, a kid's hero comes out Irish dancing, a kid who melts the hearts of the nation."
With Storm Darragh set to hit hard, prompting a red warning for 9pm tonight, the team behind The Late Late Show have been reaching out to audience members with tickets for tonight's big event, especially those coming from areas under the red alert. A spokesperson for the show confirmed: "The safety and wellbeing of all involved in The Toy Show is part of our planning every year. The Toy Show team has been keeping in contact with those living in affected areas."
Despite the severe weather warning, it didn't dampen spirits as the kids had a blast, including Galway girl Síofra Dolan who shone brightly on the show.
Síofra from Ballinasloe was a highlight of tonight's Late Late Toy Show County Parade, which saw a historic moment as children from all 32 counties showcased their county pride on screen.
