Ryanair have axed 14 of their routes from Dublin Airport starting tomorrow.

The budget airline are one of a number of carriers who will have to chop and change their Irish flights as the Airport pushes up against the ceiling of the controversial 32 million passenger cap. Ryanair's changes kick into effect tomorrow - the start of the winter season, which runs from October to March.

Spanish routes Asturias, Castellon, and Santiago, Carcassonne in France, Leipzig and Nuremberg in Germany, Palanga in Lithuania, and Sibiu and Suceava in Romania are the routes that have been cut, according to the Irish Times. Dublin Airport is set to exceed its 32 million passenger cap this year, with Ryanair and other airlines having to move planes to other airports to meet demand.

Ryanair boss Michael O'Leary previously warned that Irish airfares are set to hit "record levels" this Christmas due to the cap. He told Newstalk Breakfast: "We have been denied the extra slots we traditionally get every Christmas. They have been blocked this year by the Irish Aviation Authority. None of the airlines are getting the extra flights that we get every Christmas.

"I think the only thing that will really act as a spur is when the crisis blows up this Christmas when the airlines offer 250,000 less seats to Dublin this Christmas. When airfares hit €500 one-way, when 50,000 Dubliners are coming home to visit friends and family via Belfast."
