Virgil van Dijk sent contract message

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has been told there is nowhere else that he would enjoy playing as much as Anfield as discussions continue about extending his contract beyond the end of the season.

The same can be said of Mohamed Salah with Saudi Arabian interest in the forward remaining but Merseyside clearly the best place for him. Right now, Salah is arguably the best player in the world.

"I definitely would love them both to stay," former Reds winger Ryan Babel told Instant Casino. "I do believe, when it comes to Virgil, I believe he is going to stay. I think for him, where does he want to go after Liverpool?"

Liverpool injury latest

Ibrahima Konate, Conor Bradley and Kostas Tsimikas are the furthest players away from a return, Arne Slot said on Friday. That, of course, is not ideal with that trio making up three eighths of the Liverpool defense.

Alisson Becker, Diogo Jota and Federico Chiesa are all nearing a comeback. Each has taken part in at least parts of training in the last few days.

It remains to be seen whether or not any of the three will travel to Girona but Slot will offer an update on them during his press conference which is scheduled for 6.30pm UK time (1.30pm ET) today.

Martin Zubimendi injury

The transfer rumors involving Liverpool and Martin Zubimendi have never gone away since he turned down the move in the summer. But he has now picked up an injury.

"Zubimendi and Aihen Munoz asked me to change them, and it seems serious," Real Sociedad boss Imanol Alguacil said after his side beat Leganes 3-0 (via Mundo Deportivo).

"Sergio Gomez's case is different. He suffered a blow to the quadriceps in a clash with a rival player, but I preferred to change him, we will see how he recovers."

Luis Diaz excelling

Danilo Pereira played with Liverpool forward Luis Diaz at FC Porto and he has been giving some insight into what it is like to work with the Colombian.

"What always struck me most about Luis was his dribbling, his ability to change direction, his ball control and technique," Danilo told FourFourTwo.

"He dribbles like no one else — that’s his greatest quality. Players who are very fast often mess up when they’re dribbling at high speed. He doesn’t — the speed with which he executes his moves is far above average."

"Virgil keeps inviting me to come to a game and I will definitely do it," he told the Daily Mirror. "I'm not that idiot that hates another club. When I see Virgil play or Cody [Gakpo, who was at PSV], when they do well at Liverpool, that excites me as well.

"When they're leading in the league, I'm like, ‘Yeah, that's great’. They're having an amazing season. It's cool."

Mohamed Salah contract latest

Liverpool has reportedly now tabled an offer to Mohamed Salah, just a couple of weeks after he expressed his frustrations with negotiations, according to The Athletic.

It was claimed by the Sunday Mirror this weekend that an agreement had been reached. But this latest report would suggest that there is still some work to be done before anything is signed and sealed.
