Samantha Barry On How Her Job Affects Her Dating Life
'I’m a f**king great catch!' Samantha Barry on how being editor-in-chief of Glamour affects her dating life
She has the job that every girl dreamed of after watching The Devil Wears Prada and even counts Anna Wintour as a mentor, but Samantha Barry has revealed how the high-flying job affects her dating life.
The Cork woman, 42, was appointed the editor-in-chief of Glamour magazine in 2018, becoming the first Irish editor of the publication which is owned by the renowned Condé Nast.
She was appointed by Wintour herself despite any previous experience with print media and has gone from strength to strength in her role, and still often turns to Wintour for career advice.
But Samantha isn't fazed that someone might date her simply because of her position, as she says she is great at detecting 'bulls**t' and considers herself a 'f**king great catch' - sure, why wouldn't she?!
'I have a great bulls**t meter. I think Irish people are great [at] bulls**t detecting, Americans don’t have that. My bulls**t meter for something that feels very transactional is high - I think it is higher in this role versus other previous roles,' she told the Irish Independent.
'I can tell when somebody is on a take. I would never have thought someone would date me because I am an editor-in-chief. I’m a f**king great catch! I’m funny. I’m attractive.'
From her Irish background growing on a council estate in Ballincollig, Samantha now owns her own one-bedroom apartment in NYC and she felt like a 'power bitch' when she picked up her keys.
She said: 'I physically got the keys [and] I totally started crying. I was like a baby about it. I felt like a total power bitch. I grew up in a council estate in Ireland... Owning an apartment in New York City - I couldn’t dream that growing up.'
