Saoirse Ronan makes rare comments about family plans

Saoirse Ronan is having one hell of a year, both personally after getting married and professionally with her film The Outrun being tipped for Oscar glory.

Although she's been seen dozens of times on the promotional tour for the flick as well as ahead of the release of her Apple TV movie Blitz, Saoirse rarely makes comments about her private life.

However, in a recent interview with Vogue, the Irish actress gave a candid insight into her life away from the cameras with her husband Jack Lowden and their hopes for the future.

When asked if she'd like to have children, Saoirse said: 'Yeah, I do. I became successful when I was quite young. So it meant that, actually, by the time I found my partner, I’m now at the stage where if it happened, I would like to have a kid.

'I feel fortunate enough that if I step out of this for a minute, I’m hopefully not giving it up forever. But, yeah, I’ve always wanted that.'

Saoirse also spoke about how she switches off from filming and looks after herself when the content of the films she makes is heavy, saying she likes to spend time outside.

'We have a gorgeous garden where we live up in Scotland. I was gardening the other day and it was the happiest I’ve been in weeks because I wasn’t thinking about how I felt or what that meant,' she said.

Another way that Saoirse relaxes is by spending time with her dog Stella, a four-year-old petit basset griffon Vendéen, who was with her while she filmed her upcoming war film, Blitz.

Saoirse said it was great having Stella with her at the studio. She told Vogue: 'There was something in me that was like, "I need to put my needs to one side because Stella needs a walk." That was so good for me.'

Saoirse and Jack tied the knot in a secret wedding held in Edinburgh in July 2024 in a 'low-key' ceremony with 'only a handful' of the couple’s closest friends being present.

The couple first met while working on the set of the 2018 film Mary Queen of Scots.
