ULTRA-CONSISTENT Limerick sprint hurdler Sarah Lavin powered her way into Sunday evening's 60m hurdles semi-finals at the World Athletics Indoor Championships after producing a new personal best performance in her first round heat in Glasgow.

Lisnagry woman Lavin won her first round heat on Sunday morning in emphatic fashion, clocking 7.90 for a new personal best to leave second-placed Reeta Hurske, of Finland, in second place in a time of 7.97.

The 29-year-old Emerald AC athlete's semi-final takes place at 7.40pm tonight, where Lavin will hope to reach a World Indoors final for a second time, a feat she previously achieved in 2022.

Lavin has been in outstanding form this indoor season, most recently clocking 7.91 on her way to claiming her sixth national indoor 60m hurdles title.

The final of the 60m hurdles at the World Athletics Indoor Championships is scheduled to take place at 9pm tonight. The event is being covered live on Virgin Media 2 TV and BBC TV.

Not to be outdone, Lavin's Emerald AC clubmate Roisin Harrison was a member of the Ireland women's 4x400m relay team set a new national record of 3:28.45 in progressing to tonight’s final at the World Indoor Athletics Championships in Glasgow.

Harrison was joined on the team by Newport ACs Sharlene Mawdsley as well as Phil Healy and Sophie Becker.

The Irish quartet finished fourth in their heat, with the top two from both heats, along with the two fastest qualifiers, advancing. Ireland squeezed through as a fastest qualifier.

The final takes place at 8.30pm tonight.
