Shamrock Rovers are awaiting news regarding the condition of Savannah McCarthy after she was involved in a two-vehicle collision near the Kerry and Limerick border on Sunday evening.
McCarthy, a native of Listowel who has been capped by Ireland, was one of three people injured in the incident. All three suffered injuries believed to be non life-threatening.
The Kerryman reported that the 27-year-old McCarthy was pulled from a burning vehicle by locals.
Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a two-vehicle collision on the N69 at Glin, Co. Limerick on Sunday.
"The incident occurred shortly before 8pm," the Garda Press Office said in a statement.
"A woman (20s) was brought to University Hospital Limerick to be treated for injuries which are believed to be non life-threatening at this time.
"One man (40s) was taken to University Hospital Limerick for treatment of injuries believed to be non life-threatening.
"A second man (50s) was taken to University Hospital Kerry to be treated for injuries which are believed to be non life-threatening."
McCarthy, a centre-back, joined Shamrock Rovers in 2023 after spending time with Galway, Cork City, Glasgow City and UCD Waves.
"The club is awaiting news on Savannah's condition, we know that she is receiving excellent medical support and we hope for the best in her recovery," Shamrock Rovers said in a statement issued to the Irish Examiner.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the collision to contact them.
"Any road users or pedestrians who were in the area at the time between 7.45pm and 8.15pm and have camera footage (including dash-cam) are asked to make this available to investigating Gardaí," their statement continued.
"Anyone with information is asked to contact Newcastle West Garda Station on (069) 20650, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station."
McCarthy would likely have been part of Ireland's squad at the 2023 World Cup but she suffered a serious knee injury while playing for Galway in 2022 which kept her out of action for a year.
