The annual nationwide celebration of science runs from this Sunday, November 10 for seven days, and will feature events for the young and not-so-young across Ireland.
An annual participant in Science Week, UCC will again host events on campus
and around Cork City, including a Distant Galaxies Poetry Workshop, Fossil Expo, family Science Day at the Marina Market, and lots more.
Acknowledging that the decisions we make today will greatly impact future generations, this year’s theme is “Harnessing the Power of Regeneration”, highlighting the importance of taking learnings from the past to inform our decisions for the future.
Highlights include: The Plants for the Future Exhibition, where visitors can learn how plant science addresses issues like biodiversity loss, food insecurity, climate change, pesticide use, and pollution. The Distant Galaxies Poetry Workshop, which offers a unique opportunity to explore the university’s historic 1880 Crawford Observatory and rethink our understanding of time through poetry. A special Fossil Expo, which features interactive fossil-themed activities, including hands-on games, puzzles, and a display of real fossils. A free family science day at the Marina Market offering interactive activities, hands-on demos, and talks from UCC researchers. For full details of all events, visit our Science Week webpage.
