A match broken open by a few moments of quality from Inter Milan and Lautaro Martinez, the Lombardy derby gave fans of both teams plenty to ponder on opening weekend of the 2023/24 Serie A season.

Thanks very much for joining us. The match report will be coming up very shortly, but first here's how today's other Serie A fixtures played out:

End of 2nd Half

FT

FULL-TIME: INTER MILAN 2-0 AC MONZA

And that's all she wrote! After Martinez turned in the second goal it was never in doubt, Inter start their campaign with a win at the San Siro yet again.

SECOND-HALF STOPPAGE TIME

There's a minimum of six minutes' added time at the San Siro.

Where has Arnautovic been all game? He's only been on the field for about 20 minutes but has proven the most exciting player of the evening, he again found himself free in the box and tried to play in Mkhitaryan but has to settle for a corner.

ARNAUTOVIC INVOLVED AGAIN

Marko Arnautovic is certainly determined to stamp his name all over this fixture.

This time it's a delightful backheel that sets Carlos Augusto free, he tried to square it but might've been better going for goal himself as his pass was blocked.

DOUBLE-SUBSTITUTE TO FINISH GAME

After hanging in the balance for much of the second half, that goal has really settled the affair.

And that's it for Inter's captain fantastic. He makes way for Davide Frattesi, on loan at the San Siro from Sassuolo, to a standing ovation.

GOAL!!! INTER MILAN 2-0 AC MONZA

Just as I'm writing that, Inter double their lead - and it's that man again.

Lautaro Martinez has been anonymous for large parts of the game but he's stepped up when required.

This time Marko Arnautovic got space on the flank and whipped in a low cross, and no one tracked the captain's run as his sliding effort makes it 2-0.

With 15 minutes to go, Monza need to step it up here.

Raffaele Palladino has just one roll of the dice left after this, as Roberto Gagliardini and Danilo D'Ambrosio make way for Jose Machin and Pedro Pererira.

67'

Not to be outdone, Simone Inzaghi has brought new arrivals Juan Cuadrado, Marko Arnautovic and Carlos Augusto for Denzel Dumfries, Marcus Thuram and Frederico Dimarco.

INTER CONTINUE TO THREATEN

Despite Monza having the better of the second half, Inter are still threatening.

Denzel Dumfries teased a low cross across goal that Marcus Thuram couldn't quite stretch onto, before cute interplay between Matteo Darmian and Frederico Dimarco gave the latter space for a curling shot that was just over.

BIRINDELLI ALMOST HAS IMMEDIATE IMPACT

Samuele Birindelli has already been on the field for a few minutes but just had a gilt-edged chance.

Recieving the ball on the right of the penalty area in space, he sat down Frederico Dimarco to give himself a shooting angle but blasted it so high and wide.

60'

Raffaele Palladino has made his first changes, with Samuele Birindelli and Dany Mota entering the fray.

Mirko Maric - the surprise inclusion over Maric - makes way alongside Andrea Colpani by the looks of it.

Patrick Cuirra was initially signed but he remains on the pitch for now.

After build-up that did genuinely feel like three minutes, Hakan Calhanoglu put it well over the bar.

MONZA GROWING INTO THE GAME

Monza are enjoying a long period of possession, and they've been the more threatening team so far in the second half.

Patrick Cuirra in particular is getting involved much more while Giorgios Kyriakopoulos continues to look industrious on the other flank.

Having said all that, Pablo Mari has just brought down Marcus Thuram giving the home side a tasty free-kick about 25 yards out just to the left of the D.

Denzel Dumfries again broke free down the right-hand sideand played it to Henrikh Mkhitaryan, but he took too long allowing Pablo Mari to get a foot in.

But the danger wasn't cleared with Frederico Dimarco able to line up a shot... That sailed just over the crossbar. Michele Di Gregario might just have covered it but that was mighty close.

Hakan Calhanoglu launching a full-blooded slide tackle at Danilo D'Ambrosio through the referee is one of the highlights of the game so far.

From there, Andrea Colpani teased a low ball across the box but Inter cleared it just in time with Mirko Maric lurking.

Cuirra was disappointing on that last attack but much more decisive there, he broke into the box and fired a low shot at Yann Sommer, whose parry bounced invitingly to Andrea Colpani.

He looked certain to score with a hard-hit shot but an Inter leg extended from somewhere to block it and keep the clean sheet.
