Big Night in Tallaght for Rovers Euro Ambitions - Sport for Business

Tallaght Stadium is the place to be tonight when Shamrock Rovers seek to nudge closer to automatic qualification for the Knock out phase proper of the Europa Conference League.

They are one of only six teams unbeaten in the four rounds of games played so far and sit one point off a straight ticket to the next round, four points ahead of the floor needed to go into a play-off.

Either will guarantee a significant bump to the €4.9 million which this season’s European adventure has thus far provided. That this is 50 times the prize money for winning the SSE Airtricity Premier League shows in very vivid colours what Europe means and what Irish clubs have to play for.

A full stadium in December is the stuff of dreams for the domestic game and with tickets on sale this week for next season’s opener between rovers and Bohs at the Aviva Stadium it is hard not to feel the adrenalin for what is yet to come.

Tonight is far from a penalty kick, Bosnian side FC Borac are on seven points after two wins and a draw in the group stage so far and are playing weekly in their domestic league where they currently lie in third place.

With Chelsea to come in the last game at Stamford Bridge though, getting a result tonight is vital and the atmosphere should be intense.

Shamrock Rovers are one of the ever growing number of League of Ireland clubs that are members of the Sport for Business community.

SPORT FOR BUSINESS PERSPECTIVE

Every place attained in the qualifying stage is worth an increment of €28,000 so finishing in 24th, still making the play-off round would gain €364,000 plus a bonus of €200,000. If Rovers were to finish tenth, their current position they would earn that same €200,000 bonus and a share for the finishing position of €420,000. If they could finish iun the Top eight the bonus rises to €400,000 and the share rises as well. High stakes.

WHAT’S UP NEXT?

The game kicks off at 8PM tonight with TV coverage on Premier Sports if you can’t make it to the game.
