SHAMROCK Rovers are in Europa Conference League group stage action this evening at Tallaght Stadium.

The Hoops fell into the competition proper after a winding route that saw them fall short of Europa League qualification in a play-off with PAOK.

Jack Byrne signed for APOEL, then managed by Mick McCarthy, in 2021 but only played five times before returning to Rovers

Despite it being the third-tier European club tournament, among their opposition over the six games will be Premier League giants Chelsea.

Kick-off at Tallaght Stadium will be at 8 pm.

It's been a contentious issue how none of their European games up to this point have been shown on television.

But thankfully there is some good news on that front.

The match WILL be shown on Premier Sports 2. So subscribers can stream it via Now TV.

If you're based in the UK, it'll also be broadcast on TNT Sports 5 and discovery+.

What are the odds?

Stephen Bradley's men are out at 16/5 while their Cypriot visitors are strong favourites at 10/11.

A draw is available at 23/10.

What's been said in the build-up?

Bradley has spoken of his belief that the new league-style format will give them a greater chance of progressing to the knockout stages.

Rather than groups, the 24 teams of the 36 with the best record following the games will make it out.

He said: “I think if we want to keep the elite as elites, I think the competition should have stayed the way it was previously. 

“But the way it has opened up now, it’s showing clubs what they need to do to take that next step and push on.

“I know there has been some big scores (in the early stage of the Champions League) but I think it's only natural in the starting phase of the competition.”

And his APOEL counterpart Jose Domingeuz warned his players that they will be facing something they have never face before.

He said: “They have strengths and they are a very intense team, a very competitive team.

“They have a very peculiar way of playing, very interesting - it is different.

"I rate this more more as a whole, as it never gives up, it is dynamic and attacks a lot.

“It is interesting to see something different to what we normally encounter. But we are fully prepared for them.”
