The Newport AC starlet will represent Ireland in the women’s 400m event, the women’s 4x400m relay and the mixed 4x400m relay events.

Mawdsley will be one of a 23-athlete-strong Irish squad for the track and field events which will take place in the Stade de France, with the games running from July 24th to August 11th.

It will be the Tipp woman’s first Olympic Games having missed out on Tokyo last time round.

In a statement from Team Ireland, Sharlene says, “This is a dream come true, I can’t wait to go out to Paris and represent my country on the biggest stage of all.”

The officially selected number of athletes competing for Team Ireland has now reached 122, which has now passed the previously largest team ever (116 in Tokyo 2020).

The athletics team is travelling to Paris on a high, following on from the phenomenal performances of the Athletics Ireland team at the European Championships last month.
