Dylan Slevin is through to the second round of the World Darts Championship after beating his compatriot William O'Connor.

Tipperary man Slevin defeated an out-of-form O'Connor 3-1 to set up a second round meeting with Dmitri van den Berg.

It is Slevin's first victory at Ally Pally after qualifying for the tournament for the second time this year.

O'Connor, 38, playing in his eighth world championship, was the favourite and pumped the crowd by walking out to The Cranberries' classic Zombie.

But the Limerick man was far from his best and lost a tense opening set 3-2 to his 22-year-old compatriot.

Slevin then won the second set to leave him on the brink of the second round.

O'Connor rallied to win the third set before Slevin stormed back from a two-game deficit to take the fourth set and the match.
