Social welfare Christmas Bonus

One group is set to benefit from a fresh double social welfare payment with over one million set to receive the Christmas bonus.

The Christmas bonus was confirmed in the Budget as part of the new cost of living package that also announced it would be double their weekly rate.

The Christmas payment will land in people's bank accounts in the week starting December 2 for people who already receive a social welfare payment. It's automatic so there's no need for you to do anything if you're on a qualifying payment.

In 2024, the Christmas Bonus is 100% of your normal weekly payment. The minimum Bonus amount that will be paid is €20.

RSVP Live has reported that for those who qualify for an increase for a Qualified Adult if it is paid directly to their dependent spouse, civil partner, or cohabitant, the Christmas Bonus is also paid directly to them. For the Domiciliary Care Allowance (DCA), which is paid monthly, the bonus is 100% of the weekly DCA rate. The DCA portion of the bonus is calculated independently of other payments.

One group will benefit from receiving the bonus twice. Those on two qualifying social welfare payments such as the One-Parent Family Payment and the Domiciliary Care Allowance or a half-rate Carer's Allowance as well as your primary payment, will receive both.

Here's the full list of qualifying social welfare payments:.
