We have long since reached the stage of the season where the ‘what’ matters infinitely more than the ‘how’.
Which is just as well for Rangers, as beyond the bare bottom line of three points, there was precious little else that Philippe Clement and his team could take from another ragged performance in which the only thing being shredded was their own supporters’ nerves.
They were pushed all the way by a dogged, driven and determined St Mirren side who will never give themselves a better platform to claim a first win in this fixture since December 2011.
Stephen Robinson’s charges were eventually undone by a goal of breathtaking simplicity 16 minutes from time, when the goalkeeper Zach Hemming and the centre back James Bolton
