Ireland is bracing itself for the onslaught of Storm Darragh this week as a 'band of rain' is forecast to push into the country.
Heavy showers, strong winds and lightning have all been forecast for the next few days with many areas of the country affected, particularly the west.
According to Met Eireann, the worst of the stormy weather will be felt on Friday when conditions take a dramatic and turbulent turn.
Weather Alerts Ireland warned of a 'band of rain' headed for Ireland tomorrow morning and said that it would be followed by very heavy showers on Wednesday.
An update reads: "Thunderstorm risk and strong winds tomorrow! A band of rain will cross the country tomorrow morning. This will be followed by very heavy showers are expected to push in from the west tomorrow.
"Some of these could well be embedded thunderstorms with the risk of hail and frequent lightning.
"This will be accompanied by strong winds, strongest in the west and north of the country."
Heavy rain is expected for most of Ireland on Thursday and that is also when winds across the state will start to pick up, but the real change in the weather is not expected to be fully felt until Friday when Met Eireann says it expects it to "turn very windy on Friday night with widespread heavy rain bringing the risk of localised flooding".
Meanwhile here is the forecast for the next few days according to Met Eireann:
Today
Any mist and fog will clear early this morning and it'll be dry for a time. However cloud will continue to build from the west with rain and drizzle spreading from the Atlantic through the morning and continuing into the afternoon and evening. Becoming windy as southerly winds increase fresh to strong and gusty with gales for a time in coastal parts of the west. Milder with the rain with highest temperatures of 11 to 13 degrees.
Tonight
It'll become drier tonight as rain clears southeastwards early in the night. Some scattered showers will follow, with a few clear spells developing. While it'll be rather windy for a time, the winds will veer southwesterly and gradually moderate. Lowest temperatures of 5 to 9 degrees.
Tomorrow
Mostly cloudy tomorrow morning with outbreaks of showery rain, some of it turning heavy at times. The rain will clear southeastwards though through the afternoon, with a mix of sunny spells and blustery showers following. It'll become increasingly windy through the day with southwest winds increasing strong and gusty and later veering west to northwest, further increasing gale force at times in western coastal parts. Highest temperatures of 10 to 13 degrees.
