Daniel O’Donnell

Singer Daniel O’Donnell was on hand for this year’s country music special and before performing he spoke with Patrick Kielty about his summer. Daniel enjoyed a family wedding — and revealed he was proudly re-wearing the suit he wore in the studio.

O’Donnell said his wife Majella's son Michael married his partner Sarah in July and added they are now expecting a baby which is expected to arrive in April 2025, exactly nine months after the wedding day.

“They used to say that's the wedding night baby, it’s nine months from the very day. I’ll tell you something, if it was any different, the Sacred Heart would have fallen off the wall,” O’Donnell joked.

Kris Kristofferson tribute

O’Donnell later led a tribute to the late Kris Kristofferson, who died last weekend. The pair sang 'Me and Bobby McGee' which O’Donnell said they had actually chosen to sing on the show two months ago.

“It’s a sad loss to music, but the legacy that he left behind is incredible,” said O’Donnell.

“We picked the song to sing two months ago, it’s ironic that it should be a Kris Kristofferson song. It’s a nice way to pay tribute to him.”

Singer and social media star Garron Noone made his Late Late debut and the Mayo man revealed the origin of his uncommon name.

Coming from a house of music, his mother played the guitar and his father was in an Elvis tribute band.

“If you Google it, it actually says it's an undersized beast, which couldn't be less descriptive about me,” Noone said.

“Actually, Elvis had a twin brother who sadly passed away at birth, but his name was Jesse Garon. My dad wanted to call me Elvis. My mother wasn't having it, so here I am.”

Susan McCann

The Late Late Show added another singer to its Country Music Hall of Fame, surprising a star with the honour.

Susan McCann was a guest on the show and believed she would be talking about her upcoming 50th anniversary in country music. Instead, Patrick Kielty inducted her into the prestigious hall of fame. She was joined by her fellow hall of fame members Philomena Begley and Margo.

“You thought you were coming on here tonight to talk about 50 years in the business. But I have to say that we're here to talk about something else,” Kiely said.

McCann was clearly touched by the gesture and quipped: “Growing old has its advantages.”
