Yellowstone Spin-off Axed: Western Series Fans Shocked ...

The development of one of the “Yellowstone” spin-offs has been temporarily halted due to logistical issues.

Updates on the Yellowstone spin-offs bring some disappointing news. To date, four spin-offs set in the Western universe have been announced: Season 2 of the prequel 1923, The Madison (a sequel starring Michelle Pfeiffer), a new prequel set in 1944, and a Texas-based spin-off titled 6666.

The Texas ranch that features Jimmy, the former Yellowstone cowboy, has appeared multiple times in the main series. This is largely because the owner of the ranch is none other than Taylor Sheridan, the creator of Yellowstone! This connection undoubtedly made the process of obtaining filming permits much smoother.

The Series is Not Canceled, But…

However, being the owner doesn’t give Sheridan the ability to do everything. Thus, the development of the series 6666—although announced as one of the franchise’s upcoming projects—has been paused indefinitely. In an interview with the Hollywood Reporter, Taylor Sheridan reassured fans by stating that the project is definitely not canceled.

“For a number of reasons, this series requires special handling because it’s a real place where families work,” he explained. “We need to respect that family legacy. So, I’ve asked the studio to be patient.”

Despite the delay of 6666, the other three spin-offs are still in development, and more series imagined by Taylor Sheridan set in the Yellowstone universe will be announced soon. The main series might also be surprisingly renewed for a sixth season, as negotiations are currently underway with the main cast.

All series from the Yellowstone universe are available now on Paramount+, which is also included in the Canal+ subscription.
