Bear placekicker named MEAC Special Teams Player of the Week
BALTIMORE, Md. (Sept. 2, 2024) -- Senior placekicker Beckett Leary made his presence felt in Morgan State's season-opener debut against Hampton on Saturday night and delivered a 23-yard field goal in his first attempt of the season. The Fulton, Md. product was also successful on three of his point-after kicks. His contributions set the stage for a promising season for the veteran kicker.
On Monday, Leary became the first Morgan Bear to earn MEAC weekly honors, being named Special Teams Player of the Week.
Leary's 23-yard field goal in the third quarter against Hampton helped give the Bears a 23-14 cushion as they would go on to clinch the game with a 30-28 victory.
Leary also amassed 371 yards on six kickoffs with two touchbacks and a 61.8 yard average.
Leary and the Bears will travel across town to face the Towson Tigers (0-1) at Johnny Unitas Stadium in a non-conference matchup on Saturday, Sept. 7 in the 'Battle for Greater Baltimore'. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m. at Hughes Stadium in Baltimore, Md.
