A ban is underway in Thailand due to mass protests

Thailand's official representatives confirmed that the country's leadership issued instructions to block the popular application Telegram.

Thailand's official representatives confirmed that the country's leadership issued instructions to block the popular application Telegram. The reason being the massive anti-government protests. It's become clear that most of the protests' organizers use this messenger app to coordinate their actions.

BBC said that the country has seen protests for several months already calling for the prime minister's resignation. The activists are also calling for a limitation of the monarch's power. Most of the democratic principles are led by Thailand's student population who were displeased by the seizing of power in 2014. Thus, the monarchy which for many years was considered sacred in the country is now on the edge of ruin.

The first notice of Telegram being banned occurred due to an official document appearing on the platform which was developed by the government. It was addressed to the Thailand's Minister of the Digital Economy. And it turned out the department could legally block any resource which carried potential threat to the active regime of the monarchy in the country.

It's noteworthy that Thailand currently has extremely severe consequences for criticizing the monarchy. If the arrested protestors are found guilty, they could face up to 15 years in prison.
