It's been nearly 18 months since The Script's Danny O'Donoghue and Glen Power lost their bandmate and best pal Mark Sheehan, and it's readily apparent that it hasn't gotten any easier.

Mark, who was the band's guitarist, sadly passed away at the age of 46 on April 14, 2023, after a short illness.

Since Mark's death, Danny and Glen have been open about their grieving process, with Danny admitting to turning to the bottle before giving up the booze and finding solace in going to mass every day.

The Script have made many poignant nods to Mark over the last year but their latest tribute to their late best mate on the Late Late Show left viewers 'very emotional'.

Glen candidly admitted to host Patrick Kielty: 'Not a day goes by that we don't think about the guy, because every single thing we do reminds us of him being with us.'

Danny then revealed he was the one who had to break the news of Mark's passing to his other best friend, Glen, and described it as 'bizarre'.

'It's something you never want to do as a person,' he recalled. 'It [was] the hardest news and probably hardest day that I've ever had.'

Danny continued that he had thought the 'worst was over' after having lost both of his parents on Valentine's Day, but described Mark's passing as a 'nightmare'.

Remembering his late best friend, Danny recalled the funny story of the first time he and Mark met, when he was around 13 or 14 years old.

He recalled: 'Mark used to teach breakdancing in this place called the Blue Light. And it just looked like so much fun. You know, he was at the top of the class. He had 30 girls hanging on his every dance move. So I was like, "Yeah, that’s for me".'

'So, you know, me as a kid, he kind of took me in under his wing and really gave me a lot of confidence. I started teaching classes, and after a few years, we obviously became the best of mates. He had something I didn’t have, and I guess I had something he didn’t have.'

Hearing Danny and Glen speak so candidly about Mark left Late Late Show viewers 'very emotional', with one writing: 'Nothing but love for these guys. The Script [are] carrying Mark's legacy beautifully x.'

Another penned: 'Mark is always remembered. What fine and good men,' while a third said: 'It was very emotional watching this interview with Danny and Glen.'

Just over a year after Mark's passing, Danny and Glen announced two new band members had been inducted into The Script Hall of Fame.

The pair have welcomed bassist Ben Sargeant and guitarist Ben Weaver to the band and as well as making new music, the quartet is set to embark on a tour.

Though we're devastated by Mark's passing, we're glad that Danny and Glen are keeping his memory alive through The Script. If he could see them now!
