Premier League legend Alan Shearer has become the latest pundit to be asked to get on the viral trend of 'blind ranking' soccer players, with Liverpool ace Trent Alexander-Arnold among the latest batch to be rated.

Speaking to Goal for their TikTok channel, Shearer was asked to rank five top players from around the world from one to five but was only given them one at a time. At the end, he was content with his positioning.

“Bruno Fernandes?” Shearer was asked first. “Three,” he replied. “Trent Alexander-Arnold?” “Four,” Shearer said. “Frenkie De Jong?” “Two.” “Pedri?” “One.” “Thomas Muller?” “Five, and I don’t think I would change that around either,” Shearer added.

Barcelona star Pedri struggled this season, relatively speaking, but could still be a big player for Spain this summer. Likewise, De Jong is another top player at the Camp Nou side but there is still more to come from him in the future.

Alexander-Arnold is just as a big a talent as either, of course, and could be easily ahead of Bruno Fernandes. Muller is a very good player, too, so the Liverpool number 66 is in good company.

Currently being linked with Real Madrid sporadically, mainly because of his contract situation at Anfield where his current deal only runs another year, Alexander-Arnold should be a big player for England this summer. It remains to be seen whether or not Gareth Southgate will pick him — and if he does, it will be in the Three Lions' midfield.

Liverpool.com says: It will be really interesting to see what happens with Alexander-Arnold's position at Liverpool when he returns from Germany. Arne Slot has a big decision to make in terms of whether he will still be a full-back or move into midfield.

Given the short turnaround between pre-season and the new Premier League campaign, staying where he is rather than making a switch would seem like a sensible idea. Moving him (and the players around him) with only a short period in which to integrate any new ideas would be a big gamble during Slot's first summer.
