Dermot Whelan has bid an emotional farewell to Dave Moore and their decades-strong radio slot on Today FM.

The Dermot and Dave Show wrapped up its final broadcast at midday today. The popular duo first began radio together 21 years ago on 98FM, and have been on Today FM since 2014.

The news of Dermot's departure broke last week, and comedian Jack Whitehall jokingly quipped that the demise of the double act was akin to One Direction's break-up. The show concluded with a montage of the pair's best on air moments. And Dave, who will now forge ahead with a solo show on Today FM, described his co-presenter as his best friend.

Dermot thanked Today FM for all their support over two decades. The presenter joked he and Dermot would "hug it out" once the final broadcast ended.

He said: "I weirdly knew during that montage what it feels like to be dead. Thank you so much to Today FM - it's been an incredible place to work, and such a fun playground."

He jokingly added: "I'm off now to drink champagne and cry." Dave will begin hosting his new radio show on Today FM on August 28.
