Tottenham vs Brentford LIVE updates as Wissa adds to Mbeumo ...

20 May 2023

Hello and welcome to live coverage of Tottenham's Premier League clash against Brentford.

Following a 2-1 defeat at Aston Villa in such an important encounter in the race for Europa League football, Tottenham must immediately bounce back if they want to secure a top-six berth come next weekend.

Brighton & Hove Albion's 4-1 defeat at Newcastle United on Thursday evening has certainly helped them out, but now it is down to Ryan Mason's team to do the business as they look to finish the campaign with European football on the agenda for next term.

It certainly won't be straightforward against their fellow London club in the lunchtime kick-off, though, as the Bees come into the game on the back of three victories in their last four outings.

Tottenham correspondents Alasdair Gold and Rob Guest are covering the match with all the build-up and the action as it happens on the pitch and reaction from the supporters and media.

Here are Alasdair's thoughts on that first half from Spurs

That's the football Tottenham fans have wanted to see all season and it's come in the final home game of the campaign.

The 4-2-3-1 system freed up so many players, most notably Yves Bissouma and had Dejan Kulusevski sparkling in the number 10 role he favours. Son Heung-min also came alive on the left and Arnaut Danjuma brought energy down the right.

Harry Kane's 28th Premier League goal of the season was his best and came from a free-kick, albeit one back-heeled into his path by Kulusevski.

Even if Ryan Mason doesn't get the permanent Spurs job, if Tottenham hold on and win this game with more football like that then this can be his calling card to get a job elsewhere next season. The football has been a joy to watch, the players constantly moving and combining and creating chances.

The fans cheered them off at the break, far from the reaction of other games this season when Tottenham have clearly had the handbrake.

Now the hosts mustn't waste this start because it's a chance to leave the fans with a real positive after a mess of a season.

More lovely football from Spurs. This time Son combines with Emerson before drifting in a cross which Danjuma heads just wide.

Over

Some good play from the visitors ends with Jensen shooting over from the edge of the box.

12:55Alasdair Gold

Emerson chance

What a move from Spurs. Kulusevski backheels a ball into the path of Son and he chips a cross to the back post where Emerson's header is headed off the line by Henry. Davinson Sanchez heads just wide from the resulting corner.

12:43Rob Guest

Clearance

Davies on hand to clear the ball away from danger after Schade had got the better of Sanchez.

12:43Alasdair Gold

Son chance

Harry Kane puts Son Heung-min away but his effort is saved by Raya. Bright start from Spurs who are constantly looking to get forward.

Slot's transfer vision

Feyenoord boss Arne Slot is now the favourite with the bookmakers to become the next Tottenham manager.

With Spurs needing to rebuild this summer, the Dutchman could be the ideal man for the job after overseeing one himself in Rotterdam.
