The UPS Store on Churn Creek Road in Redding starting Guardian Box Program to waive fees of care packages being sent out to active military members who are away for the holidays 11/26/24 (KRCR)
REDDING, Calif. — A Redding couple wants to make sure our troops overseas are feeling the holiday spirit as well with what they call ‘Guardian Boxes’.
The UPS store on Churn Creek Road is giving people one less thing to worry about during the holidays and is waiving fees for people sending care packages to their loved ones who are stationed far away.
Owners of the newly opened UPS Store, Ben and Heidi Bradshaw, have military ties that run deep in their family.
The idea sparked from Bradshaw’s college days when the owner of a previous UPS Store that he worked at started a program to waive fees for care packages being sent to active military members who are away from home.
Once they opened their own store, the Bradshaw’s saw an opportunity to start the program here in Redding.
“So, they just need to bring the contents that they want to ship. We have the boxes already, so they are an APO (army post office) FPO (fleet post office) flat rate box. They’ll come in, we’ll package it up for them, we'll also provide a holiday card that they can send,” said Bradshaw.Bradshaw recommends sending things like hygiene products and non-perishable food items.
He says that supplies are limited so you can only send out one box per day per active military member.
The program runs from Dec. 1 through the 9 and is specific to their store location only.
The store is located at 4653 Churn Creek Road in Redding from 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sundays.
