Virgin Media star Zara King has lifted the lid on her relationship to her mystery boyfriend, admitting that she likes to keep her personal life 'very private'.

The newsreader and co-host of the Group Chat podcast has been in a relationship for nearly a year, but has kept her boyfriend's identity under wraps.

Giving an insight into why she stays tight-lipped on her relationship, Zara said she uses her 'gut feeling' to decide what aspects of her life to share.

'I like to keep my relationship private because he’s not in the public eye and he’s very private. We’re really happy and we’re together nearly a year now.

'It’s been great. Maybe he’s been a big factor in me learning to enjoy my personal time a bit more. When there’s somebody else relying on you to finish work and not be working through the night, that’s obviously a factor,' she said.

Zara added: 'In terms of how I decide what to share and not share, I go with my gut feeling on it. I was at my cousin’s wedding in France a couple of weeks ago, but I was so delighted to be there and so proud of her.

'I was so happy to share a nice photo of her and she was happy with that too. I don’t overthink it. I think if you think about it too much, it’s a bit contrived isn’t it? I share things in the moment and how I feel about them.

'When it comes to my relationship, it’s something I intend to keep private,' she told RSVP.

The rising presenter is set to air her new documentary To Die For: Cosmetic Surgery in Turkey, which sees her examining why many Irish people are travelling to the country for medical and cosmetic procedures.

'We've heard stories of people coming back with difficult circumstances. We wanted to understand the motivation. Why are people choosing to go abroad for quite serious procedures?

'Is it that it's too expensive in Ireland? What are the consequences if something doesn't go right? It's important to say from the outset, for a lot of people travelling, it does go well for them,' she said.
