Wales v Fiji

Wales take on Fiji today, with the man in the middle an unfamiliar face to many. Here's what you need to know about Luc Ramos.

Who is Luc Ramos?

Born in France in 1991, Ramos moved quickly through the ranks of junior refereeing and joined the officiating group for the French Pro D2 in the summer of 2015.

He has since taken charge of games in the French Top 14, the Gallagher Premiership, the Champions Cup, the U20 Six Nations and the World Rugby U20 Championships. He also refereed England's clash with Japan and Argentina's thrashing of Uruguay this summer.

Clash with French captain

Last month, Ramos left France star Gregory Alldritt seething when he was involved in an incident with England centre Manu Tuilagi.

In his first match for new side Bayonne, Tuilagi didn't take long to make an impact as he made a huge hit on La Rochelle captain Alldritt just before the half hour mark in the Top 14 clash.

The hit saw the England international make head-on-head contact with Alldritt, who demanded that the incident be reviewed. But after Ramos and his team took a second look, the officials decided that, while there was head contact, Tuilagi was bent at the hips and had wrapped his arms, while Alldritt had dipped down into the tackle.

"The tackle is legal, it’s your head that tilts forward”, Ramos told the back row, prompting an angry response from Alldritt.

"It's not legal," said the 27-year-old, who skippered France in Antoine Dupont's absence this year. "Don’t talk to us about player safety anymore.”
