Weather forecast

Sunshine and warmer-than-usual October weather have been predicted for Hull and the East Riding.

Hull has an average maximum temperature of 14.76C and an average low of 7.83C in October, according to the Met Office. Temperatures are expected to reach 16C next week which means we can look forward to a period of mild weather.

After a rather wet and windy weekend, the weather should be more settled from Monday. The week begins with clear skies and a less than 10% chance of rain.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, The Met Office claims temperatures could be as high as 17C, although between 15C and 16C is more likely. Temperatures will feel very mild but there may be periods of cloud cover.

Thursday, Friday, and over the weekend will be sunny although there will be periods of cloud cover in the evenings. Giving its forecast for the region, The Met Office said it will be "bright but breezy with scattered cloud and perhaps the odd light shower" although any rainfall is likely to be limited to the north and west.

It added there will be "plenty of bright spells through this period" and winds would be "lighter than in recent days, though perhaps becoming breezy on Wednesday".

There have recently been flood warnings for Hull and the East Riding, but these were due to the high tides over the weekend rather than severe weather events. The flood barriers were lowered and the government's flood agency warned that people in the most at-risk areas such as Victoria Dock should "act now".

Fortunately, there have been no reports of serious flooding. Hull has been removed from the flood warning list, but coastal parts of Bridlington and some villages near Spurn Point are still under an alert which will be updated at 11am on Monday.
