Met Eireann has served up a Halloween weather forecast that is sure to have people all over Ireland excited.

Autumn is well and truly here however, the cooler temperatures expected at this time of year are not.

The average temperature for Ireland in October is usually in and around 11°C but the Halloween celebrations will be a somewhat balmy affair with Met Eireann forecasting highs of 16°C on Thursday evening.

As thousands all over the country set out on a night of trick or treating and gazing at firework displays the good news is that it is set to be a mostly dry and warmer than average evening.

The good news doesn't stop here. The next few days are set to be dry for most of Ireland however a lot of cloud cover is also expected.

It's not such good news for anyone jetting off to mainland Europe for the midterm break. Sadly, Spain and other parts of Europe are set for a very wet few days.

"Total rainfall over the next week across Europe and unusual to see Spain one of the wettest spots in Europe," wrote Alan O'Reilly of Carlow Weather on X. "They [Europe] badly need the rain but the Irish tourists heading there for mid-term won’t be happy!"

Met Eireann forecast:

Monday: Mostly cloudy and misty tonight with patchy light rain and drizzle. Some clearer breaks in the west will spread eastwards overnight. Lowest temperatures of 5 and 10 degrees. Light, occasionally moderate, westerly breezes will fall light and variable by dawn allowing fog patches to thicken.

Tuesday: Mist and fog patches will gradually clear through the morning to leave a dry day for many with a mix of cloud and bright spells and just the odd spot of light rain or drizzle. In the west and northwest, however, patchy rain and drizzle will move in from the Atlantic through the late afternoon and evening. Highest temperatures of 13 to 15 degrees in light westerly breezes.

Tuesday night: Mostly dry overnight with some clear spells, especially in the southeast. Some rain and drizzle too, especially for Atlantic areas later. Lowest temperatures generally of 7 to 11 degrees in light, occasionally moderate, southwest breezes with mist and fog patches developing again.

Wednesday: Mist and fog will clear through the morning to leave another largely dry albeit mostly cloudy day with just a little light rain and drizzle. Highest temperatures of 14 to 16 or 17 degrees in light southwesterly or variable breezes.

Wednesday night: Continuing mostly dry and cloudy. Temperatures falling to between 9 and 12 degrees in light southwesterly or variable breezes, more moderate near northern coasts. Mist and fog patches will develop.

Thursday: Staying mostly dry with a little more in the way of sunny breaks developing. Still some patchy light rain and drizzle at times. Highest temperatures of 13 to 16 degrees with mostly light southwesterly winds, more moderate near northern and western coasts.

Friday: Mostly dry with some sunny spells. During the evening a band of light rain will begin to push in from the northwest. Highest temperatures of 13 to 15 degrees in light to moderate southwesterly winds, fresher near northern and western coasts.

Weekend: Current indications suggest that largely dry and rather cloudy conditions will persist through the weekend with temperatures generally reaching between 12 and 15 degrees.
