Temperatures in Ireland are expected to plummet to 0 degrees as Met Eireann warn that it will be “quite cold for the time of year”.

The country enjoyed stunning weather last week, with temperatures hitting 26 degrees at one point.

However, now the autumn weather has arrived and people should be prepared for very cold conditions.

Alan O’Reilly from Carlow Weather shared his latest forecast, saying: “Rain has arrived in the Southwest and up to 12c there but down to 0c further North with clear skies. Latest rainfall charts show over 10mm likely for parts of South and East.”

While Met Eireann stated that we will get “mixed weather” and that it will be “quite cold for the time of year”.

Wednesday, 25 September

Outbreaks of rain in Munster and south Leinster will move up over Leinster through the morning and afternoon and into east Ulster this evening, possibly heavy at times, especially in the south. Connacht and most of Ulster will be dry with bright or sunny spells, best in the northwest. Highest temperatures of 11 to 14 degrees with light to moderate northeast winds.

Tonight, outbreaks of rain will mainly affect Ulster and the eastern half of Leinster and will be heavy at times, especially near the coast. Connacht and Munster will be mainly dry with some clear spells in the west and southwest. Lowest temperatures of 4 to 9 degrees, coldest in Munster with light to moderate northerly winds.

Thursday will be mostly cloudy with rain in Ulster and Leinster extending to all areas and turning heavy at times, especially in the east with spot flooding possible. Drier weather will develop in north Ulster in the evening. Highest temperatures of 9 to 13 degrees with moderate to fresh northerly winds.

Thursday night will start off cloudy and wet with rain in many areas. The rain will gradually clear southwards overnight with clear spells and a few showers following. Lowest temperatures of 6 to 9 degrees with moderate northerly winds.

Friday will be a cool, bright day with sunny spells and scattered showers, mainly in Ulster, Connacht and west Munster. They'll be more isolated in the east and southeast. Highest temperatures of 10 to 14 degrees with moderate north to northwest winds. Friday night will be cold and mainly dry with clear spells. a touch of grass frost is possible with lowest temperatures of 2 to 6 degrees.

Saturday, 28 September

Saturday will be cool and bright with sunny spells and just well scattered showers, these mainly in the west and north. Highest temperatures of 11 to 13 degrees with mostly light to moderate westerly breezes. Saturday night will be dry with clear spells and lowest temperatures of 4 to 7 degrees.

On Sunday morning, rain will develop in the southwest and will spread northeastwards to all areas along with fresh easterly winds, later becoming northeasterly. The rain will be heavy at times, especially in Munster and Leinster with spot flooding possible. Highest temperatures of 11 to 15 degrees. On Sunday night rain will continue, but will gradually clear to the east overnight and early on Monday.
