Meteorologists have been left curious after forecasts showing incredibly mild temperatures of 18 degrees this week stumped the public.

'Anticyclonic Gloom' near Ireland is expected to arrive this month, bringing with it several days of dull, drab weather with mist, fog and drizzle in places.

Paris, France currently hasn't gotten an hour of sunshine in the last six days due to the gloomy high pressure system, and Ireland may await a similar fate.

Despite this forecast, areas of the country are set to receive an unusual 18 degrees of temperature thanks to a slight bit of solar radiation, and weather experts have stated that it's not as uncommon as many would think.

"It could reach 18C in Ireland on Wednesday. But 18C is not uncommon to be reached somewhere in the country in November. In fact, it's achieved more often than not," one meteorologist stated online.

"Valentia Observatory had 2 consecutive days of more than 19.5C as late as 13th / 14th November in 1989."

The Snow Dreamer, another forecaster, wrote: "Upper air temperatures are remarkably warm at present, more than 10C above average. It does not tell the story though. This is not represented at all on ground level."

"This cloud is letting in very minimal warming solar radiation, I ponder this set up 3 months ago, this week would have been a heatwave, mid 30s and blazing sun? Amazing how patterns can have very different meanings depending on when they occur."

Yet another expert gave their thoughts on when they thought that the anticyclonic gloom might impact Ireland.

"The area of high pressure will continue to be situated nearby, with a further reinforcement of the high likely by this weekend into next week. The anticyclonic gloom is likely to last for a fair while yet unfortunately."

"We need to keep an eye out on the evolution of the high from around 16th-18th, it may begin to shift more west or begin to wane, allowing for something more unsettled."

Met Eireann have issued the following short-term forecast.

Conditions are likely to be rainy on Tuesday but there'll be a few sunny intervals, especially in the northeast of the country.

Scattered patches of rain and drizzle will spread northwards during the day but overall there will be plenty of dry weather. Top temperatures of 12 to 16 degrees in moderate southerly winds.

A few patches of rain and drizzle are forecast on Tuesday night, especially in the northwest. Some areas of mist and fog are developing also, particularly on southern coasts and hills.

A mild night with lowest temperatures of 11 to 14 degrees in moderate southerly breezes.

A mostly cloudy but mild day is expected on Wednesday. There will be a few patches of rain and drizzle around but overall lots of dry weather.

A few limited bright or sunny spells may develop, these are most likely to occur in northern counties. Highest temperatures of 14 to 18 degrees in moderate south to southeast winds.

Mist and fog will affect eastern and southern coastal districts at times.
