Weather experts have warned of a high risk of thunderstorms across Europe in the coming days as a rare phenomenon takes hold.
Summer weather often provides the perfect conditions for storms to develop. Warm temperatures allow the atmosphere to hold more humidity, and that humidity is a prerequisite for building clouds—specifically, the tall, menacing cumulonimbus clouds that produce thunder and lightning.
Meteorologist Paul Blight warned: "Potentially dangerous weather situation developing this afternoon over parts of E. France, Lux, W Germany, NW Swiz, within 20-22C 850mb Theta-W as upper air trough & cyclonic vorticity max over SW France moves NE it will force destabilisation & Rapid growth of Intense Storms".

His fellow meteorologist Nahel Belgherze also stated:
"Rare dual top-end Level 3 areas have just been issued by ESTOFEX ahead of tomorrow’s expected regional severe weather outbreak. Damaging winds, very large hail and a few, possibly strong, tornadoes are likely across portions of Western Europe."
Met Eireann have issued the following forecast for the next two days.
This morning will be dry apart from a few showers over the northern half of the country. Generally cloudy with some sunny intervals. This afternoon, light rain or drizzle will develop in the west, spreading over the western half of the country this evening. Highest temperatures of 15 to 20 degrees in light to moderate northwesterly winds.
Tonight
Tonight will be mostly cloudy with patchy light rain and drizzle spreading to eastern counties and continuing overnight. Some dry intervals also. Lowest temperatures of 9 to 12 degrees in light to moderate westerly winds.
Tomorrow
Monday morning will be mostly cloudy with scattered outbreaks of light rain or drizzle, gradually clearing eastwards through the afternoon with sunny spells following. A few patches of drizzle may linger in the southeast until evening. Highest temperatures of 14 to 18 degrees in moderate westerly winds, becoming northwesterly.
