They are best known for their 'square burgers' and those Irish who have lived in - or visited - the US will be familiar with their chicken and salads.
Now the US fast-food giant is reactivating plans to open outlets in Ireland, by seeking franchise partners for an initial 10 resturants from 2025. The Ohio-owned chain will be partnering with Corrib Oil and their petrol station brand Circle K, to put their outlets into major forecourt locations, as well as seeking stand-alone sites with franchise partners.
Wendy's had tried to break into the Irish market in 2022 but it's understood the lack of a big domestic partner put those plans on hold - now the company is ready to push forward and a recruitment campaign for an initial 300 jobs will start early next year.
The company says the beef in its Irish restaurants will be 100% Irish sourced and certified and that it plans on sourcing ingredients locally wherever possible.
Headquartered in Dublin, Ohio, Wendy's has over 7,200 restaurants, with more than 1,200 of these located outside of the US.
EJ Wunsch, President, International, of The Wendy’s Company, said that Corrib and Ireland are a perfect fit for the brand.
"Ireland is a great market for long-term growth for Wendy’s," Mr Wunsch said.
"With a proven track record of outstanding operations and a significant growth history, we are confident that Corrib Oil is the right partner to drive Wendy’s expansion in Ireland," he added.
Corrib Oil currently operates 38 convenience stores with forecourts across 17 counties.
