People in Surrey are preparing to adjust their clocks this weekend, with many looking forward to an extra hour in bed. The county, along with the rest of the UK, will switch from British Summer Time (BST) back to Greenwich Mean Time (GMT).

The official time for the clock change is 2am on Sunday (October 27, 2024), a tradition that takes place on the last Sunday of October each year. However, many will manually adjust their clocks before going to bed on Saturday (October 26) or on Sunday morning.

The clocks have been set to British Summer Time since March 24 this year and will return to BST on March 30, 2025. The phrase 'Spring forward, fall back' helps people remember the seasonal clock changes.

According to the Government website, during BST, evenings have more daylight while mornings have less, a concept also known as Daylight Saving Time. This practice was first introduced in 1916 during the First World War and has continued ever since.

In 2025, the clocks will spring forward on March 30 and fall back on October 26. In 2026, they will go forward on March 29 and back on October 25.
